The UF Graduate School is proud to announce that it has inducted the first nine members of the UF chapter of the Edward A. Bouchet Graduate Honor Society into the organization following the university's induction in September and a rigorous membership application process. The induction ceremony took place on May 8, 2017, and included a keynote address by Dr. Juan Gilbert, Banks Preeminence Chair in Human-Centered Computing and Chair of the Computer & Information Science & Engineering Department, who was the driving force behind UF joining the society.

Named for Edward A. Bouchet, the first ever African American to earn a Ph.D. from an American university, the society seeks to develop a network of preeminent scholars who exemplify academic and personal excellence, foster environments of support and serve as examples of scholarship, leadership, character, service and advocacy for students and postdocs who have been traditionally underrepresented in the academy.
