January 2022: National Mentoring Month at UF

Release Date: January 13 2022

January is National Mentoring Month — and the exchange of knowledge, insight, and expertise that nurtures personal and professional growth through mentoring is absolutely key to the graduate education experience.

At the University of Florida, UF Research and the UF Graduate School are partnering to mark the month with a Focus on Mentoring series, which kicks off on Thursday, January 20, 2022 (9 a.m. to 12 noon) with an online Zoom event featuring a welcome by UF President Kent Fuchs; a seminar by Dr. Idalis Villanueva Alarcón (UF Engineering Education Department); a student-faculty panel discussion on overcoming challenges in mentoring relationships; and closing remarks by UF Vice President for Research David Norton. The UF Graduate School also honors excellence in mentoring through its annual Graduate Student Mentoring Award, Graduate Education Diversity Champion Award, and Faculty Doctoral Mentoring Award.

Other UF mentoring initiatives, both within the campus community and throughout the wider surrounding neighborhood, include numerous programs and opportunities under Peer Mentoring and the Office of the Chief Diversity Officer Mentoring Initiatives.
