A Statement on the Earthquake in Turkey and Syria

Release Date: February 07 2023

Hands in unity

At the UF Graduate School, our hearts go out to one and all who are affected by the massive Kahramanmaraş earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria yesterday.

We also want our students to know that they need not shoulder the weight of worry, weariness, and woe over this natural disaster alone.

We encourage anyone in distress — particularly our Grad Gators from Turkey and Syria — to reach out for help by…

  • Calling UF Counseling and Wellness (CWC) crisis support at 352 392 1575, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Visiting the UF CWC office at 401 Peabody Hall, open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. (Click here for map and directions.)
  • Exploring the many workshops, services, and resources available to you on the UF CWC website by clicking here: go.ufl.edu/cwc.

In times like these, let’s be mindful that each and every one of us is part of one human family that shares this single planet as our common home. Be kind. Be considerate. Be helpful.
