Graduate Student Mentoring Award (GSMA)

The Graduate Student Mentoring Award (GSMA), coordinated by the Office of Graduate Professional Development (OGPD) within the University of Florida Graduate School, honors notable engagement of graduate students in:

  • Peer-to-per mentoring of fellow graduate students.
  • Mentoring of undergraduate students.
  • Mentoring in K-12 classroom settings (either direclty with students or as teachers’ adies)

Each year, a GSMA committee of faculty and staff with experience in mentoring chooses six graduate student applicants for one-time awards of $500 each, basing their decisions on the applicants’ academic and professional accomplishments, their mentoring philosophy, their effectiveness as a mentor, and their impact on their mentees’ academic and professional growth.

Who’s eligible for the GSMA?

The GSMA is open to UF graduate students in a master’s, specialist, or doctoral program at the time of applying, who engaged in a mentor-mentee relationship over the past academic year wiith undergraduate students, graduate students, K-12 students, or K-12 teachers.

How do I apply for the GSMA?

Have one faculty advisor or mentoring supervisor and one mentee submit recommendations on your behalf, using this form: GSMA Recommendation.

Applicants and recommenders both submit their forms online via this link: GSMA Submissions.

What’s the deadline to apply for the GSMA?

The deadline for applications and recommendation letters for the 2022 GSMA is Wednesday, March 1, 2023, 5 p.m.
